The controller decides when your water methanol system injects and how much it delivers. Controllers differ in what they read to determine load, such as boost pressure, injector duty cycle, MAF signal, or an ECU output, and in whether they ramp flow progressively or simply switch on at a set point. Many also add failsafe protection that warns you or changes engine behavior if injection stops. Upgrading the controller is one of the most effective ways to improve an existing water meth system.
It reads an engine signal, decides when injection should begin, and controls the pump to deliver the right amount of fluid. A progressive controller increases pump speed as load rises, so flow tracks what the engine actually needs. Without a good controller, even a well-sized nozzle can inject too early, too late, or at the wrong rate.
If your system works but uses a basic on/off controller, upgrading the controller alone can add progressive control and failsafe protection without replacing the pump, lines, or nozzles. If your system is older or incomplete, a complete kit may be the simpler path.
Choosing a water meth controller raises a few common questions about compatibility, setup, and protection. The answers below cover whether a controller will work with your existing kit, how progressive controllers are adjusted, what a failsafe actually does, and whether you need a tune to use one. Because trigger inputs, pump compatibility, and failsafe features vary between controllers, check each product page for specifications before you buy. For help matching a controller to your system and tune, talk with your tuner or contact our team.
Often, if the controller's output and current rating match your pump. Check compatibility on the product page before you buy.
Set the point where injection starts and the point where it reaches full flow, then confirm with your tuner using logs.
It watches for loss of flow or low fluid and responds, commonly with a warning, a switch to a safer tune, or reduced boost, depending on the controller.
Not to run it, but a tune is needed to take advantage of water meth for added timing or boost, and to set up ECU-based failsafe responses.
