Skunk2 Racing builds performance parts for Honda and Acura, including intercoolers for the turbocharged Honda Civic 1.5T. Shop Skunk2 intercoolers for the 2016 to 2021 Civic 1.5T and the 2022 and later Civic 1.5T, plus a complete intercooler kit for 2016 to 2021 models. Skunk2 intercoolers are all aluminum with cast end tanks and bar and plate cores, built to bolt into the factory location and work with factory or aftermarket piping. Each is built for a specific Civic generation, so confirm your year before ordering. Skunk2 intercoolers are for off-road and competition use.
Skunk2 Racing is a performance parts manufacturer focused on Honda and Acura, building engine, intake, suspension, and cooling parts for street and race cars. Its intercoolers for the turbocharged Civic 1.5T apply that Honda focus to one of the most popular modern turbo platforms.
2022 and later Civic 1.5T intercooler. A direct bolt-in replacement for the factory intercooler, sold as the intercooler with piping adapters. It's all aluminum, with cast A357 end tanks TIG-welded to a bar and plate core, and includes mounting hardware and CNC billet adapters for factory or aftermarket piping. 2016 to 2021 Civic 1.5T intercooler. The same construction for the earlier Civic 1.5T, including the Civic Si, Sport, EX-T, EX-L, and LX with the L15B engine. It's designed to connect to factory piping.
2016 to 2021 Civic 1.5T intercooler kit. A complete kit with a 3.5-inch-thick core that Skunk2 says is 30% larger than the stock 2.5-inch intercooler, with tubing routed through the factory locations. Flanges are included for use with factory piping.
The factory Civic 1.5T intercooler uses plastic end tanks and a relatively small core. On a stock car it does the job, but once the engine is tuned for more boost, or driven hard in hot weather, it can heat soak. When intake air temperature rises, the engine reduces timing to protect itself, and power drops.
A larger all-aluminum intercooler holds more heat and sheds it faster, which helps keep intake temperatures consistent. It also replaces the plastic end tanks, a common weak point as boost rises.
Heat soak and timing pull during repeated pulls or hot-weather driving.
Plastic factory end tanks that become a weak point as boost rises.
Limited cooling capacity on tuned Civic 1.5T engines.
Skunk2 questions usually come down to which Civic generation a part fits, intercooler versus kit, and tuning. The answers below cover fitment, the Type R, piping, tuning, and legality. Contact our team for help.
Skunk2 makes separate intercoolers for the 2016 to 2021 and 2022 and later Civic 1.5T. Check your model year.
No. These intercoolers are built for the 1.5T engine, not the Type R's 2.0T.
Yes. Skunk2 includes adapters for factory or aftermarket piping.
Typically no. It works with the factory calibration, though tuned cars benefit most.
