Core Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Some of the products sold on MyTurbos.com include a core charge. This Core Policy explains what a core is, how core charges work, how to return your old part, and when you will (and will not) get a core refund.

If you are buying a remanufactured turbocharger or another part that lists a core charge, this policy applies to you.

1. What Is a Core?

A core is your old part that is being replaced by a remanufactured or new unit. The manufacturer reuses the rebuildable components of your old part.

  • You pay a core charge up front when you buy the replacement.
  • You send back your old unit.
  • If your old unit (the core) meets the requirements in this policy, you receive a core refund.

2. When a Core Charge Applies

A core charge applies when:

  • The product page clearly shows a core charge or "Core Deposit."
  • Your order confirmation and invoice list a core charge line item.

If a product does not show a core charge, you do not owe a core and no core refund will apply.

3. Core Return Deadline

Unless stated otherwise on the product page, invoice, or in writing:

  • You have 90 calendar days from the invoice date to return your core.
  • Cores received after this window may receive reduced or zero credit, at our discretion or per the manufacturer's rules.

If you know your return will be delayed (for example, shop backlog or parts on order), contact us before the deadline. We may or may not be able to extend the timeframe, depending on vendor rules.

4. Core Condition Requirements

To receive full core credit, your core must meet all of the following:

  • Like-for-like part.
    • Same basic type and configuration as the part purchased (for example, a VGT turbo for the same application, not a different model or size).
    • No "mix and match" cores or different part numbers unless pre-approved.
  • Complete and assembled.
    • Turbocharger must be fully assembled:
      • Turbine housing
      • Compressor housing
      • Center housing / CHRA
      • Actuator / wastegate (if originally equipped)
    • No missing major components.
  • No catastrophic external damage.
    • No broken, cracked, or smashed housings.
    • No damage from fire, severe impact, or melted components.
    • No cut-off flanges welded in odd places that make the core unusable.
  • No severe corrosion or contamination.
    • Reasonable wear is expected; heavy rust that compromises reuse is not.
    • No cores full of debris, sand, or foreign objects.
  • No prior disassembly or "frankenstein" builds.
    • Cores must not have been completely disassembled and reassembled from mixed parts.
    • No heavily modified housings, heavily ported housings, or welded-up experimental setups unless approved.
  • Drain the fluids.
    • Remove oil and other fluids to avoid leaking during transit.
    • Plug or cap exposed oil and coolant ports where possible.

If your core does not meet these requirements, we may issue partial credit or no credit.

5. How Core Charges and Credits Work (Step-by-Step)

  1. You buy a reman / core-required part. The order includes the part price plus a core charge.
  2. We ship your replacement part. You install the new or reman turbo on your vehicle.
  3. You prepare and ship the core. You send your old unit back following the instructions in Section 6.
  4. Inspection. The core is inspected by us or the remanufacturer based on the criteria in Section 4.
  5. Credit decision.
    • Full credit: if it passes inspection.
    • Partial credit: if it is rebuildable but damaged or incomplete.
    • No credit: if it is non-rebuildable or fails the requirements.
  6. Refund processing.
    • Approved core credit is refunded to your original payment method or as store credit (as applicable).
    • Processing time: typically 7 to 14 business days after the core is received and inspected.

6. How to Return Your Core

To avoid delays or denied credits, follow these steps:

6.1 Request a Core Return Authorization

Contact us with your:

  • Order number
  • Name and contact info
  • Part number you are returning the core for

We will issue a Core Return Authorization (RGA/RMA) number and provide return instructions.

6.2 Packaging

  • Use a sturdy box and sufficient packing material to prevent movement.
  • Place the core in a sealed plastic bag (or similar) to prevent oil leakage.
  • Clearly write the RGA/RMA number on the outside of the box and include it inside.

6.3 Shipping Costs

Unless specifically stated otherwise:

  • You are responsible for return shipping costs for cores.
  • We are not responsible for lost, damaged, or misrouted core shipments.

We strongly recommend:

  • Using a trackable shipping method.
  • Insuring the shipment for at least the amount of the core charge.

7. Inspection & Credit Outcomes

All cores are inspected based on manufacturer or reman guidelines. Results fall into three categories:

7.1 Full Credit

You may receive full core credit when:

  • Turbo is the correct, like-for-like unit.
  • It is complete and not disassembled.
  • It is not fire-damaged, smashed, or heavily corroded.
  • Damage is limited to normal wear (bearing failure, shaft play, moderate wheel contact, and similar).

7.2 Partial Credit

You may receive partial core credit when:

  • The core is the correct type but is missing certain attached components that must be replaced (for example, actuator or certain hardware).
  • There is housing damage that makes some components non-reusable but leaves enough usable core value.
  • There are mild modifications that require extra work to restore usability.

Partial credit amounts vary and are decided by the remanufacturer. We do not control or guarantee specific partial credit amounts.

7.3 No Credit

No core credit will be issued if:

  • The core is not the correct application or is a completely different model or type.
  • It is heavily damaged, burned, smashed, or cracked beyond reuse.
  • It has been cut, welded, or heavily modified in a way that makes normal remanufacturing impossible.
  • It is missing major components and cannot reasonably be used as a core.
  • It is received after the return deadline and the vendor will not accept it.

In a no-credit scenario, the core will not be returned to you unless:

  • You request return in writing before or during the inspection process, and
  • You agree to pay any return shipping costs.

8. Shipping Damage or Lost Core Returns

8.1 Damaged in Transit

If your core is damaged in transit on the way back to us or to the reman facility:

  • The shipping carrier may be responsible, not MyTurbos.
  • Any claim for shipping damage must be filed with the carrier.
  • We will provide documentation to help you file a claim where possible, but we are not responsible for carrier decisions.

8.2 Lost Shipments

If a core shipment is lost by the carrier:

  • You are responsible for filing a claim with the carrier.
  • We cannot issue core credit for cores we never receive or that the remanufacturer never receives.

9. Shops, Installers & Fleet Accounts

If you are a shop, installer, or fleet:

  • You are responsible for managing core returns from your customers or internal units.
  • All cores must still follow the same deadlines and condition rules.
  • We may, at our discretion, offer consolidated core returns or account-level arrangements, but those must be agreed in writing in advance.

10. Policy Exceptions & Manufacturer-Specific Rules

Some manufacturers have stricter or different core requirements, such as:

  • Shorter or longer return windows.
  • Different condition standards.
  • Specific packaging or documentation requirements.

When a manufacturer has a stricter rule than this policy, their rule wins. If there is a meaningful difference for a specific product line, we will attempt to note it on the product page or your invoice. However, the manufacturer's written core program ultimately controls.

11. Changes to This Core Policy

  • We may update or change this Core Policy at any time.
  • Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
  • Changes apply to purchases and core returns made after the new policy goes into effect.

12. Questions or Help with a Core Return

If you are unsure whether your old turbo qualifies as a core, or if you have questions about a specific application, contact us before you ship it.
